RULES AND REGULATIONS

I. Qualifications of Participants

1. Students from any secondary school (private or public) within the Southern Tagalog Region (Regions IV–A AND IV-B) are qualified to join the contest.

2. Each school must be represented by only one group composed of four students. One of whom is an alternate.

II. Registration Procedures

A. All registration forms must be submitted to any UPLB MASS member at the Math Building Lobby (formerly known as Old Rural High School) on September 7, 2009 from 7:00AM to 8:30AM.

B. Together with the registration form, each participating school shall include a registration fee of PhP 600. Registration fee would cover expenses related to the preparation of the activity and would not include accommodations for the participants.

III. Coverage

The contest proper will cover topics in Logic, Arithmetic, Geometry, Trigonometry, Algebra, Calculus and Statistics.

IV. Contest Proper

A. Preliminary Round
1. A closed-door preliminary written examination will be given from 9:00AM to 11:00AM. Only three of the official contestants from each school will take the exam.

2. The exam will be taken individually. The accumulated scores of the three contestants will be the basis for the qualification in the wild card and final round.

B. Wild Card Round
1. This round will start at 1:00PM. The venue for this round will be announced after the preliminary examination. All team participants should be at the venue at 12:45PM.

2. The top ten teams from the preliminary round will automatically qualify for the final round. Meanwhile, those teams who ranked from eleven to twenty-five will compete in this round for five wild card entries in the final round.

3. Mechanics of the Wild Card Round
a. Ten (10) questions will be asked.
b. Each team will be given thirty (30) seconds to answer each question.
c. A correct answer gains 10 points. A wrong answer gets a deduction of 5 points and a no answer gets a deduction of 2 points.
d. The top five teams will advance to the final round.

C. Final Round
1. Easy Round
a. Ten (10) questions will be asked.
b. Each team will be given thirty (30) seconds to answer each question.
c. A correct answer gains 5 points. Both wrong and no answer get no point.

2. Average Round
a. Eight (8) questions will be asked.
b. Each team will be given sixty (60) seconds to answer each question.
c. A correct answer gains 10 points. Both wrong and no answer get no point.

3. Difficult Round
a. Five (5) questions will be asked.
b. Each team will be given ninety (90) seconds to answer each question.
c. A correct answer gains 15 points. A wrong answer gets a deduction of 5 points and no answer gets a deduction of 3 points.

4. Contestants will be allowed to solve the question only after the quizmaster says, “Time starts now.” If a team violates this rule, the warning flag will be raised and a first warning will be given. For the second and subsequent violations incurred during a particular round, the warning flag will be raised again and the team will be disqualified to answer those questions.

5. Clarifications from the participants will be acknowledged after the correct answer for that question has been given by the quizmaster. Their proctor shall raise his hand and the contestant may address the judges with the question. The judges’ decision is final.

6. In case of ties after the three rounds, tiebreaker questions will be asked until one of the team makes a point over the other.

V. Prizes
1. Each participating school will receive a certificate of participation and a souvenir.

2. Each participant who qualified in the Final Round will receive a medal.

3. The highest scorer in the preliminary round will be given a medal and a certificate of recognition.

4. Prizes for the top three teams are as follows:
