UPLB Students Battle for the Math Wizard Title

The finals of the 36^th Annual Search for the UPLB Math Wizard took place at the Math Building Lecture Hall last September 10, 2009.

The activity is in line with the celebration of the Mathematical Sciences Week with the theme Math in Music: An Inquiry of How Mathematics Makes Melody.

Eighty eight individual participants from all year levels in UPLB competed for the title of UPLB Math Wizard. The elimination was held last September 8, 2009 at the Physical Sciences Lecture Hall B.

On the other hand, 15 participants were obtained from the crowd of 88 to battle for the finals. The judges present during the finals were Ms. Shiela Demegillo, Mr. Jonathan Mamplata and Mr. Joelino Lapitan.

The top three students in the competition were Mark Jayson Baloto on the third place, Reynald Andre Falzado on the second, and Yuichi Otsuka on the first place and this year’s Math Wizard, adding to the roster of the other math wizards of the previous years.

The UPLB Mathematical Sciences Society continues to serve the students through these kinds of activity, serving its purpose of promoting academic excellence inside and outside the university.
