In its 35 years of glorious existence, the UPLB Mathematical Sciences Society has maintained excellence not only through academics but also through numerous activities that only the UPLB MASS can facilitate with spunk and fervor. At the start of the school year, amidst the hype of seeing each other again for more or less two months, planning and preparations are already underway for the activities of the first semester.

FIRST SEMESTER:

Mathematical Sciences Week (MathSci Week) > The biggest activity of the organization and probably one of the most rigorous in the whole university is held on the third or fourth week of August. The talent and energy of most of the members are almost exhausted to nothing as they organize two quiz contests, facilitate a teachers' seminar, and mount an exhibit in a span of five days.

Annual Search for the UPLB Math Wizard > One of the quiz contests during the MathSci week, it is the most prestigious search for the best Math students in the university in both the individual and team categories.

The Southern Tagalog Invitational Mathematical Challenge (MatheMatch) > It is the only quiz contest of its kind and scope in the whole Southern Tagalog Region (Region IV). Top high school students compete for being the best in the field of Mathematics.

Puzzle of the Day and Puzzle of the Week > This is an open competition during and in the exhibit within the MathSci Week where people browsing through the exhibit try to be the first to submit the correct answer for a puzzle fro m the fields of Computer Science, Mathematics and Statistics.

UPCAT Tutorials > Helping seniors from the public and private high schools around the province to prepare for the UP entrance exams given in the first week of August, we supply them with manuals, review sessions and helpful hints in taking the most competitive admission exam in the country.

PalaCASan > We participate in the largest sports tournament in the university to build the camaraderie with other organizations in the College of Arts and Sciences. We compete in all the events in the tournament like the cheering competition, the men’s and women’s basketball, table tennis, and volleyball.

Tutorials in Applied Math, Computer Science, Math , and Statistics subjects > Fulfilling the organization’s objective “cultivating deeper appreciation and wider application of Mathematical Sciences…and involvement with the rest of the University constituency”, we provide reliable and free review sessions in subjects in the courses mentioned above.

Towards the second semester, there's still no rest as we spend our creative juices to think of the ways that we could spice up the next set of activities.

SECOND SEMESTER:

UPLB Mathematical Sciences Week (MASS Week) > Before the Christmas Break, we will be celebrating the founding of our beloved organization. Again a rigorous week for activities. An exhibit features the details of the glorious history of the organization. It is further highlighted by a contest named George Hunt, an Outreach program, our own sports fest and a party with our alumni as guests.

George Hunt > Our official MASScot, George, always runs away during the MASS Week. Therefore, we solicit the help of the students in locating him all over the campus. It is almost a mad scramble as everybody tries to locate and turn him over to us first.

Heyday > Alumni vs. resident Members. The resident want to prove that they are better, while the alumni wants to feel what they had in their prime.

Outreach Program > The newest members of the organization spearhead another one of our endeavors. This is again one of the ways to give back for what success we acquire.

Intra-Math > We need a taste of our own medicine. Therefore, we have our own member only quiz contest. Topics in our courses, the Humanities, the Social sciences, and in other Life Sciences. It is the members’ chance to shine.

Student-Teacher Quiz > The one and only chance that you could copy from your teachers. Try if they know what you know and see if you are smart enough in trivia and everything else under the sun.

Other Activities
Orientation > A way for the freshman, as well as other would-be applicants, to know more about our organization.

Sem-enders > One of our own ways to reward ourselves for a semester well done.

MASS Dinners > A chance to eat with other members and share the camaraderie that makes the night less lonely.

Group Studies > Fulfilling our objective of promoting academic excellence. Sharing knowledge over coffee and snacks.
